This is an entry devoted to friendship across the miles and to the power of the Internet.
I now have a new cyber-home, thanks to the diligence of my lovely friend K whose link is down at the bottom of the page for those who would like to reward her for her amazing efforts!
I met K ... mmm about four years ago when I happened across her journal on the net during long, lonely hours at my desk as the war in Iraq waged on.
I connected with her writing immediately ... she wrote with warmth and soul and made me feel as though I was sitting across her kitchen table, sharing a cup of coffee and catching up on the day.
Soon after, I sent her a shy e-mail to congratulate her on the site. I put my timid little Aussie hand up to (to me) this heroine of the on-line journalling world, who was working and caring for (her first) child and married, as I was, to a motor-cycle-mad man.
Soon after that first, shy e-mail, she sent me a packet of jelly-beans and a new friendship was born. This was a friendship based almost purely on words. Isn't that an amazing thing?
Every morning I would rush to my desk to see that reassuring K name appear in my in-box. We would chat daily and soon, we spoke in real life.
I now believe there are many people in this world who were born to be friends. Whom some higher power of whatever order connects in some way. The internet has brought amazing changes to the world and one of the amazing things it has done is to break down the cultural and geographical barriers to bring all the joys of friendship to as many people who seek it as possible.
Many packages were then exchanged across the oceans. (My son still has his three tiny trains K sent us when he turned one .. and, in a triumph of American engineering, they still work!)
We shared recipes, advice, confidences, photos and love.
Soon after, I moved to my current location and, although we still communicated, through fault entirely of my own making, the K name appeared only infrequently in my in-box.
Now, in a joyous return to our friendship and my mental and physical health, we enjoy our old e-mail friendship again.
Times have changed and K can now design websites which she has done so kindly with mine.
And, as word slowly trickles throughout the on-line journalling community that I am back, I hope to rekindle a lot of old friendships.
K .... you and your entire, gorgeous family ROCK!
With a whole lotta love from down under,
T aka Mangoes.
